The History of the Olympic Games

Part 1

The History of the Olympic Games
1          Early history
The Olympic Games started in 776 B.C;  they were named Olympic after the city of Olympia in Greek where the games started  the first time. The five rings symbolof the Olympic Games represents the five continents (North America, South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe). People say the Games were there even before 776 B.C by 500 to 600 years. Olden historians started to measure the timing for the games to start every four years between August to September. The Olympics had only one game called "Stade" which is a sprint race for about 210 yards.

Summary Reflection

We did our first summary on desert horsemen police patrols. This summary talks about how the police can keep the city safe. Hedley gave us some advice about how to summarize the passage and how to get the main ideas, look at the opening and closing paragraphs, and we have to omit the names and the quotations. This summary was a practice.
The second summary we did was about road crashes, and mostly it was about children's safety. Hedley taught us how to use the words in the sentences and how we can get the main purpose from the paragraph and summarize it. He fixed our mistakes, after we submitted them, and he returned them to us for review . This summary grade is 10 percent from our overall grade.
Our third summary was about pearl diving. This summary tells you how the pearl diving is getting less and less famous with the years. This passage talks mostly about the past, present, and what they will do in the future to keep the pearl diving going on. Hedley taught us that in this summary we need some dates and numbers. But we don't have to use them a lot.

Pearl Diving

The Arabian Gulf was one of the largest natural diving economies in the world. There were more than 1,000 pearling boats and around 20,000 divers. Pearl diving faded away as less expensive pearls became commonplace. Emirates Marine Environmental Group and Jumeirah Group have formed a new pearl diving eco tour, giving guests a chance to dive in search of pearls. Reporters from the Gulf News got invited on a pre-launch dhow tour and pearling dive, and learned the merits of fetching oysters. Pearling was the financial lifeblood in the past; it used to trade for goods. The pearl industry collapsed when Far East pearl farmers created the pearls by inserting a bead in the oyster to create better and faster pearls than the divers. From 100 oysters found divers might find 1 pearl; they used to spent weeks at sea in search of the most expensive pearl which is called the pink pearl and the black pearl. Sports and Leisure Group tour will attempt to recreate the diving experience through the traditional diving clothes and food, and the pearls found will be kept as souvenirs. They are looking to revive this rich heritage.

Road Crashes

Road Crashes
Traffic accidents are the leading cause  of children's death aged fourteen and younger. The Ministry of Interior prohibits children younger than ten years from sitting in the front seat, but they still do so. Authority must make an effort towards child car seat safety, inform, and advise the people with kids to strap their children to a car seat. Lack of proper seating and proper strapping has a big impact on the traffic injury and death rate in the UAE. Car seats absorb the actual crash force, take it away from the child, and reduce risks. All the children should sit in the back of the car, and all ages of children should have proper booster seats. Weight and age are factors to consider when choosing the appropriate child car seat. Booster seats reduce the risk of injury for children. People are unaware of how injuries and deaths can come from a family member holding the child rather than a seat belt. Unawareness is the reason parents don't have their children in car seats in the UAE. Educating children about road safety and good habits are actions to promote road and child safety. Giving out the free car seats will encourage people to use them. In the last few years there has been an increase in child car seat sales.
