Car Accidents

Car Accidents

Introduction & Information:
The United Arab Emirates is one of the smallest countries in the world, and there are only around 9 million people living in the UAE. Therefore, it has the highest accident record of car accidents related to its population in the world. Studies in the World Health Organization show that 3,000 people die every day from car accidents. According to WHO regions in 2002 United Arab Emirates has the largest number of people who die in car accidents. In 2002 32 people died per 35,325 in UAE, comparing with United Kingdom where 4 people died per 35,325 in the same year. Car accidents are the second main cause of death in the United Arab Emirates, and it is the primary cause of death of the children in the UAE. According to the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi 63% of the child deaths are caused by car accident. All these numbers were going higher and higher from 2002 till 2009. Police record shows that 5,514 people died in the past six years only from car accidents; the average is 2 people or more per day. From 2006 till 2011 there were more than 21 million penalties recorded against the drivers.

Problem:
United Arab Emirates has the largest amount of radar (road cameras) on the road to catch speeding cars, and has the biggest traffic fines. But still people don't care, and still people drive over the speed limit. Studies show the biggest problem in car accidents in the UAE is reckless driving, and then comes careless attitudes. The government changed the Abu Dhabi - Al Ain highway speed limit to 160 kmh after it was 120 kmh thinking people will not drive over 160 kmh. The problem is drivers still are driving over 200 kmh on the Al Ain highway. The government changed Abu Dhabi - Dubai highway speed limit from 120 kmh to 160 kmh thinking car accidents will decrease, and drivers can have a little more freedom on the speed, but not going crazy. Unfortunately, drivers are still driving over the speed limit and causing major accidents on the highway. The government had to change the speed limit again to 140 kmh after the biggest accident in the whole Middle East happened. Most accidents happen in the United Arab Emirates are caused by adult drivers between 18 and 24 years old. People are dying every day and drivers don't care and still are driving as if nothing happening. Everywhere in the whole world people die from car accidents, but in the United Arab Emirates the number of people is very scary.

Solution:
The Government of the United Arab Emirates is trying very hard to find a solution to reduce the car accidents in the country. In the past 4 years they opened a driving school to educate the drivers. It helped a lot to decrease the car accidents since the school started to teach and educate young drivers. Since then it is the law to go to the driving school and pass the exam before you can have your driver licence. The government made a law that every driver has 24 points on his driver licence, and after any mistake the driver make, there are black points will be taken from the drivers 24 points. If the driver license point reaches 0 then the police will deprive the driver of his license for three months; in this case the driver will not be able to drive his car for three months. This law reduced the car accidents in the United Arab Emirates. In my opinion, there should more police patrols on the high ways to scare the drivers from speeding and getting caught , and there should be a law which says that reckless drivers will go to jail for one month. This might reduce the car accidents in our country. We might have a little happiness with our family without being scared  of going to work or coming home safely. I think parents have a duty too to educate their children about the harm of the speeding and reckless driving.

The History of the Olympic Games

The History of the Olympic Games
1 Early History
The Olympic Games started in 776 B.C; they were named Olympic after the city of Olympia in Greece where the games started the first time. The five rings, symbol of the Olympic Games, represent the five continents (The Americas, Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe). People say the Games were there even before 776 B.C by 500 to 600 years. Olden historians started to measure the timing for the games to start every four years between August to September. The Olympics had only one game called "Stade" which is a sprint race for about 210 yards.

2 Development
After 52 years another two games were added in to the Olympics, 400 meters and 1500 meters run. From that time till 648 B.C. a lot of games were included like foot race, long jump, boxing, chariot racing, pankration, and others. Women were not allowed to play any games at that time, and married women were not allowed to attend the games.
The Olympic Games declined after an Emperor entered the Olympic chariot race and pronounced himself the winner even after he fell from his chariot. In 393 an Emperor ended the Olympic Games after nearly 120 years.Baron Pierre de Coubertin (1863-1937) of France, was inspired to create a modern Olympic Games after visiting the ancient Olympic site. In November 1892 he proposed to revive the Olympics as an international contest held every four years. After two years he got the approval, and he made the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be the government of the Olympic Games and they are located in Switzerland.
In 1908 at the Olympic Games in London there were more than 2,000 athletes from 22 nations competing. The next Olympic Games had more than 2,500 competitors from 28 countries and started the first women's swimming events. In 1916 no games were held due to World War 1. After the war finished they started to play in 1920 in Antwerp, Belgium, and for the first time football was spread throughout the country. In 1924, there were huge numbers of people who participated from 44 different nations in Paris. In 1928 the Games in Amsterdam had more than 290 women out of 3,000 athletes at the Olympics Games, and for the first time there was a closing ceremony for the Olympics. More games were included that year like skating, ice hockey, bobsledding and the biathlon. The Olympic games became an important and huge jump in sports at that time. The Olympic Games were postponed again for 12 years because of the second World War, and resumed in
 .1948

3 Modern Development
The 2004 Summer Olympic Games was known as Games of the XXVIII Olympiad held in Greece, and for the first time since the 1996 Olympics all countries with National Olympic Committee attended  the Games. Also for the first time since 1896 the Olympics were held in Greece. In 2008, the Games had grown to about 10,500 competitors from 204 nations. In 2010, the Olympics started games for 14 to 18 years old and gave them a chance to be in the Olympics; they called it the Youth Games. The first Youth Olympic Games were held in Singapore in August 2010. The IOC allowed only 3,500 athletes at the Summer Youth Games, and 970 athletes at the Winter Youth Games.

Summary Reflection

We did our first summary on desert horsemen police patrols. This summary talks about how the police can keep the city safe. Hedley gave us some advice about how to summarize the passage and how to get the main ideas, look at the opening and closing paragraphs, and we have to omit the names and the quotations. This summary was a practice.
The second summary we did was about road crashes, and mostly it was about children's safety. Hedley taught us how to use the words in the sentences and how we can get the main purpose from the paragraph and summarize it. He fixed our mistakes, after we submitted them, and he returned them to us for review . This summary grade is 10 percent from our overall grade.
Our third summary was about pearl diving. This summary tells you how the pearl diving is getting less and less famous with the years. This passage talks mostly about the past, present, and what they will do in the future to keep the pearl diving going on. Hedley taught us that in this summary we need some dates and numbers. But we don't have to use them a lot.
