Introduction & Information:
The United Arab Emirates is one of
the smallest countries in the world, and there are only around 9 million people
living in the UAE. Therefore, it has the highest accident record of car
accidents related to its population in the world. Studies in the World Health
Organization show that 3,000 people die every day from car accidents. According
to WHO regions in 2002 United Arab Emirates has the largest number of people who
die in car accidents. In 2002 32 people died per 35,325 in UAE, comparing with
United Kingdom where 4 people died per 35,325 in the same year. Car accidents
are the second main cause of death in the United Arab Emirates, and it is the
primary cause of death of the children in the UAE. According to the Health
Authority of Abu Dhabi 63% of the child deaths are caused by car accident. All
these numbers were going higher and higher from 2002 till 2009. Police record
shows that 5,514 people died in the past six years only from car accidents; the
average is 2 people or more per day. From 2006 till 2011 there were more than
21 million penalties recorded against the drivers.
Problem:
United Arab Emirates has the largest
amount of radar (road cameras) on the road to catch speeding cars, and has the
biggest traffic fines. But still people don't care, and still people drive over
the speed limit. Studies show the biggest problem in car accidents in the UAE
is reckless driving, and then comes careless attitudes. The government changed the
Abu Dhabi - Al Ain highway speed limit to 160 kmh after it was 120 kmh thinking
people will not drive over 160 kmh. The problem is drivers still are driving
over 200 kmh on the Al Ain highway. The government changed Abu Dhabi - Dubai
highway speed limit from 120 kmh to 160 kmh thinking car accidents will
decrease, and drivers can have a little more freedom on the speed, but not
going crazy. Unfortunately, drivers are still driving over the speed limit and
causing major accidents on the highway. The government had to change the speed
limit again to 140 kmh after the biggest accident in the whole Middle East
happened. Most accidents happen in the United Arab Emirates are caused by adult
drivers between 18 and 24 years old. People are dying every day and drivers
don't care and still are driving as if nothing happening. Everywhere in the
whole world people die from car accidents, but in the United Arab Emirates the number
of people is very scary.
Solution:
The Government of the United Arab
Emirates is trying very hard to find a solution to reduce the car accidents in
the country. In the past 4 years they opened a driving school to educate the
drivers. It helped a lot to decrease the car accidents since the school started
to teach and educate young drivers. Since then it is the law to go to the
driving school and pass the exam before you can have your driver licence. The
government made a law that every driver has 24 points on his driver licence,
and after any mistake the driver make, there are black points will be taken
from the drivers 24 points. If the driver license point reaches 0 then the
police will deprive the driver of his license for three months; in this case
the driver will not be able to drive his car for three months. This law reduced
the car accidents in the United Arab Emirates. In my opinion, there should more
police patrols on the high ways to scare the drivers from speeding and getting
caught , and there should be a law which says that reckless drivers will go to
jail for one month. This might reduce the car accidents in our country. We
might have a little happiness with our family without being scared of going to work or coming home safely. I
think parents have a duty too to educate their children about the harm of the
speeding and reckless driving.
